CBD DEVELOPMENT

The CBD streets and open spaces programme is an ambitious $157. 8 million, 10-year programme to transform our streets and open spaces to those of a world-class city. This represents a significant level of investment in the CBD's public open spaces.

The programme is largely funded by the CBD Targeted Rate which is a special rate paid by CBD residents and businesses and for the upgrade of central city streets and open spaces.  The following is list of some of the bigger projects in the CBD. For a full list click here.

AUCKLAND'S WATERFRONT

Auckland's CBD waterfront is one of our greatest assets. Auckland City Council's draft CBD waterfront masterplan is the next step in maximising the area's appeal as part of developing a world class city we can all be proud of.

This city is unique. Auckland City is becoming an attractive, exciting city, with vibrant local communities and a people-focused, energetic city centre. Current waterfront projects include, Wynyard Point, Te Wero Bridge, Marine Events Centre and more.

AUCKLAND ART GALLERY

Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki is undergoing major restoration and expansion work, which will transform the building into a world class cultural facility for Aucklanders and visitors alike.

The Auckland Art Gallery development involves mandatory seismic strengthening and restoration, as well as the expansion and modernisation of the building.

After the project is completed early in 2011, Auckland's signature gallery will be bigger - half as big again - with much more area for showcasing world-class exhibitions. It will have improved lighting and sound, a more environmentally-friendly design, and become a showpiece for more local and international collections.

STREET UPGRADES

Lorne St, Elliott St, Darby St and Fort St are all in the process of being upgraded and transformed into more attractive CBD destinations that promote the use of shared space.
