RUGBY WORLD CUP COUNTDOWN

'Party Central'

Located at the heart of Auckland's waterfront, Queens Wharf has been secured as the prime festival venue for RWC 2011.

The immediate focus is preparing the wharf for Rugby World Cup celebrations; the long-term benefit will be opening up the wharf to Aucklanders and visitors, with new public spaces and a passenger terminal for the flourishing cruise ship industry.

The wharf will be "party central" for the event, and used as:

  • The main fan zone site, capable of hosting up to 20,000 people
  • The focus for a mass public celebration around the Opening Ceremony and opening match on 9 September 2011
