city projects

In recent years, Auckland's central city has gone through a significant transformation. With recent $168 million street and open space upgrade project, including transformational shared space upgrades, and projects like Queen Street and St Patrick's Square, the Watertfront Development, and other infrasturcture upgrades such as the Auckland Art Gallery and the Q Theatre, the City is finally beginning to look, act and feel like a truly international city centre.

Heart of the City work to support a number of these projects and the businesses around them. We have an active role in these developments, including with our role on the CBD Board.

CBD Streets and Open Space Upgrade Programme

The CBD streets and open spaces programme is Auckland Council's ambitious 10-year programme to transform our streets and open spaces to those of a world-class city. With the majority of the programme completed, the programme is largely funded by the CBD Targeted Rate which is a special rate paid by CBD residents and businesses and for the upgrade of central city streets and open spaces.

Waterfront Development

Auckland's waterfront is undergoing an exciting transformation. Between Harbour Park by Westhaven Marina in the west to Teal Park some eight kilometres east, a range of projects are underway to deliver a waterfront Aucklanders have been calling for and to help Auckland, and New Zealand, achieve its full economic potential. The first stage of Wynyard Quarter and Queens Wharf recently opened.
