Who's Coming
The RWC 2011 tournament is expected to bring an estimated 60,000 66,000 international visitors to NZ. Including 2,000 media and 2,500 international corporate VIP's with the largest numbers coming in from Australia, England and South Africa.
The majority of visitors will arrive and/or depart through Auckland; and approximately 70% of visitors will arrive only for the last two weeks of the tournament. It is predicted that 50% of the final game attendees will be international, 17% from out of Auckland and 33% from Auckland.
Visitors to Auckland for RWC 2011 are likely to:
Peak at around 40,000 (out of approx 65,000 to NZ) by the latter stages
Stay for around 3 weeks
Be largely aged between late 20s and late 40s
Usually travel in a group, whether large or small
Frequently bring their families or meet here for a holiday
Have above average incomes
Be well travelled
Be well educated
Mostly speak English
Visit i-SITES and other visitor centres
Do research on their trip before they leave
Be heavy users of the internet
