Fort Street Upgrade nears Completion

News story
Tuesday 23 Jul 2013

Stage 3 of the Fort Street upgrade, between Gore St and Customs St East, is nearing completion. Temporary barriers are finally disappearing , trees are being planted and the final touches of new street lights and street furniture are underway.

New "shared zone” and parking signage will shortly be introduced to the street. As in other shared spaces, this will mean that loading and unloading may only occur between the hours of 6am and 11am Monday to Sunday for five minutes. At all other times no stopping or parking will be permitted.

Progress on the last stage of the Fort St makeover has been delayed as old cables and pipes which were found underneath the street needed to be re-located. Auckland Transport says these roadworks will be complete by late August or early September, and they will continue to inform local businesses of progress . The intersection of Emily Place and Fort St will be closed one last time, most likely over a weekend, to complete works in this area.
