Love Your Leftovers Lunch: Friday 25 November

Did you know that over $100 million worth of leftovers are thrown away in New Zealand every year? Auckland Council is running a "Love Your Leftovers Lunch" campaign and encourages you to host a leftovers lunch in your workplace on Friday 25 November.

Eating leftovers for lunch is a great way to conserve the resources spent into transporting, purchasing and preparing food. Leftovers can also save your staff money. With the average bought lunch costing around $7, that’s $1,680 you could save per annum by making your own lunch.

How do I hold a Love Your Leftovers Lunch?
Encourage your colleagues to bring leftovers for lunch on Friday 25 November. Provide them with a way to repackage their leftovers into a new meal. Your business could provide the appliance (e.g. sandwich press) and key ingredients (e.g. bread and cheese) for people to then makeover their own leftovers.

Ways to repackage leftovers
• Toasted sandwich maker or sandwich press + bread or tortillas + cheese + leftovers
• Pie maker + pastry or bread + leftovers
• Rice paper rolls + sweet chili sauce + leftovers
• Oven + pizza bases + leftovers
• Frypan + eggs + leftovers
