Restaurant Month 2013 Results

News story
Tuesday 15 Oct 2013

The winter months are typically a time that many Aucklanders can slip into hibernation mode, yet this wasn't the case for thousands of diners who indulged in the abundance of special menus and events on offer from participating restaurants throughout August.

Delivered by Heart of the City and the Lemongrass Productions (Taste of Auckland) team, Restaurant Month provided an impressive 22.5% increase in customer spending at participating restaurants for August 2013 in comparison to last year and an 11.5% increase for the whole of the central city’s restaurant and café category over that timeframe. This was supported by an equally impressive increase in the number of transactions at the participating restaurants over the month – 28.9% and an increase in total market share of 2.1%

2013 marks the third year running of Restaurant Month. The success of the event and campaign has been well and truly cemented and is definitely becoming an annual commitment for central city restaurants and Aucklanders.

To top off the success story, Heart of the City is also delighted to confirm that the prize package of an amazing $10,000 trip to San Francisco and dinner for 2 at the legendary French Laundry encouraged 5665 entries to be submitted with one happy diner – Heidi Gordon being drawn as the lucky winner.

We are already into planning for the 2014 event and will be encouraging restaurants to register to participate well in advance of the event this time round. Keep an eye out for communications from Lemongrass Productions calling for early bird registration – as there will be a cap on the number of participants that be involved for 2014.
