Auckland is one of 98 cities globally to be affiliated with the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group – a network of major cities committed to tackling climate change, representing over 650 million people and one quarter of the global economy. C40’s focus is to drive urban action that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and climate risks, while increasing the health, wellbeing and economic opportunities of urban citizens.

We’re also part of the C40 Fossil-Fuel-Free-Streets declaration, along with Paris, London, LA, Mexico City, Capetown and others. The key actions for Auckland to transition to fossil-fuel-free-streets are procuring only zero-emission buses from 2025 and ensuring a major area of the city is zero emission by 2030.

Projects being delivered through the City Centre Targeted Rate under the guidance of ACCAB will contribute significantly to the achievement of a zero emission city centre by 2030.
