Improving High Street
In collaboration with Council and with input from the High Street District community we are undertaking a pilot project that will trial some ideas for improving High Street and exploring options for its future.
Council has $14m budgeted for investment into High Street in around 2023. In the interests of making some real change now, we are collaborating with Council to explore ‘quicker, lighter’ options for the street which don't involve major disruption and which can help work out how the street could be in the future.
This also supports the thinking behind a new concept called Access for Everyone, a new way at looking at our city centre's streets.
The first two stages of the trial are now fully complete, with the third stage to be installed in late March. Changes include a 'drop in' footpath that creates more space for people as well as more greenery and additional space for loading. To read what some businesses have said about the project read a recent story here.
