News story
Thursday 23 Jun 2022

On Queen Street, between Wakefield and Wellesley Streets, an Essential Vehicle Area (EVA) is now in place. This is part of the Wai Horoitiu Queen Street Project - read the latest newsletter here.

It will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It means that only certain vehicles can access this part of Queen Street. They are:

  • Delivery vehicles
  • Goods vehicles
  • Utility vehicles
  • Emergency service vehicles
  • Vans
  • Trucks
  • Buses
  • Bicycles
  • Mopeds
  • Motorbikes

This video explains the changes:

The EVA will be remotely monitored. For the first six weeks, those who incorrectly use the EVA will receive a warning letter. After this period, there will be a $150 infringement fee.

To find out how to get around with these new changes, head to the Betterway website.
