SkyPath project update

News story
Tuesday 21 May 2013

The Auckland SkyPath, the privately-funded proposal for a tolled walking and cycling path over the Auckland Harbour Bridge, received another tick from Council's Strategy & Finance Committee  who voted to support Mayor Len Brown's recommendation for Council staff to advance their work on SkyPath's funding and delivery arrangements. This information will come back to Council for consideration before a decision on implementing SkyPath is made.

The cost estimate for the SkyPath is $30.5 million. This includes the landings at each end, special night lighting, security measures, observation decks and a contingency of $4 million, and also includes the costs of additional bridge strengthening work, which NZTA will consider contributing towards.

Auckland Transport has worked with Ernst & Young to update their business case for the SkyPath. The low use/low growth patronage scenario now shows an overall surplus of approximately $10 million over a 20 year period.
