Heart of the City announces new Chief Executive

News story
Monday 18 May 2015
Chair of Heart of the City, Terry Gould, is thrilled to announce the appointment of Viv Beck as our new Chief Executive.

This is an important appointment for Heart of the City at a time of significant development in downtown Auckland. We were delighted with the interest shown in this role and the calibre of applicants in an extensive search process, both locally and overseas. Viv has the skills and understanding to advocate strongly on behalf of our members as the city centre continues its growth as a vibrant place to live, visit and do business.

Viv has experience at Board, Chief Executive and General Manager level across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. She has held a range of leadership roles in Wellington, with regular travel to Auckland over many years. She was Chair of the Wellington Museums Trust, which governs the largest grouping of arts and cultural visitor attractions in Wellington, and was a Director of economic development agency Grow Wellington. Viv was also the Acting Director of the Auckland Art Gallery briefly in 2013 following the departure of longstanding former Director Chris Saines and has since permanently relocated to Auckland.

Viv says that "Auckland City is transforming and the potential ahead is huge so I'm very excited to have this opportunity. One of my early priorities will be getting to know Heart of the City members to ensure their views are reflected in our ongoing work to foster a successful city centre economy".

Viv will join the team in early July.
