From busking to cliff diving and much more: Auckland’s city centre is the place to be this Anniversary Weekend
There’s no reason to be leaving Auckland with all the events happening in the heart of the city throughout the long weekend. From the first-ever New Zealand Red Bull cliff diving competition to perennial crowd favourite The International Buskers Festival – it's all on.
Viv Beck, Heart of the City’s Chief Executive says:
“There’s a unique lineup of experiences happening this Anniversary Weekend and we’re expecting thousands of people to come in and enjoy them. We’ll see some of the best divers in the world jumping off the equivalent of 8 storeys down at the waterfront, and buskers from around the world will be performing everything from acrobatics to magic tricks in some of our beautiful spaces. The waterfront will also be bustling as people watch the Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta - the biggest of its type in the world. There’s also a chance to get up close with Rhianna’s famous Met Gala yellow dress at the Auckland Art Gallery. All with a backdrop of great dining and shopping.
There are plenty of indoor experiences to enjoy too. Including checking out Rihanna’s iconic 2015 Met Gala gown at Auckland Art Gallery’s Guo Pei: Fashion, Art, Fantasy 郭培: 时装之幻梦 exhibition along with kids workshops at the Maritime Museum and Queen’s Wharf.
Looking to February, the city centre will continue to bustle with events including the Pride Festival and Lunar New Year and more iconic fun in the water with the Z Manu World Champs to be held at the end of the month.
