A curious new food festival launches in the heart of the city

Press release
Monday 9 Jul 2018

Auckland city centre eateries, craft breweries and wine bars are coming together to take over Shed 10 on Saturday 18 August to celebrate creativity and curiosity. Bring an appetite for adventure and be prepared to taste curious and tasty one-off dishes created especially for this American Express Restaurant Month event. From a cracked coconut rice burger to a black banana dessert, The Curious Food Festival will surprise and delight foodies from start to finish.

Viv Beck, CEO of Heart of the City, says the new event will be another distinctive event for American Express Restaurant Month to add to an already interesting schedule of experiences.

“This year we are embracing the unique and encouraging people to ‘Eat Odd’ and try something new and different. We have a new food festival where talented city centre chefs are creating original dishes for just one day at a great waterfront venue. We’re looking forward to welcoming Aucklanders into the heart of the city to have some fun and explore their gastronomic horizons with some curious food and beverage creations, and be entertained at the same time.”

The line-up includes Daikoku, Scratch Bakers, Toto Pizza, & Sushi, Le Chef, Green Time, The Seafood Kitchen, Oh My Cheese, Lalele, 1947 Eatery, Ynot and more.

Alongside the dynamic dishes on offer, you can quench your thirst with superb wine from Negociants and Church Road, sparkling goodness from San Pellegrino or choose between seven craft breweries including Tuatara, Behemoth and Liberty Brewing, who will be serving intriguing brews for the day to quench your thirst and pique your curiosity.

Be entertained by the antics and acrobatic skills of The Biggest Little Circus along with DJ Arii Jade – the unique purple-haired mermaid who has played at some of the coolest clubs and parties across New Zealand.

The Curious Food Festival kicks off at 12pm and runs through until 8pm at Shed 10, entry is $5 on arrival (with children under 12 free with a paying adult). However, the first 2,000 people to turn up will be provided FREE entry – so be sure to get there early.

This will be a day of intrigue, fun and delicious exploration. Keep an eye on www.heartofthecity.co.nz  and on The Curious Food Festival’s Facebook event page for news, entertainment and menu updates and let your inquisitive taste buds run wild.
