Fanshawe St and Westhaven Drive Works

News story
Thursday 22 Nov 2012

Between late December 2012 and March 2013, Transpower is working to reinforce the power supply into Auckland and Northland, addressing the regions' reliance on a single high capacity transmission line between Otahuhu and Henderson for their power.

The work is primarily isolated to the eastbound direction on Fanshawe Street and extends from the Fanshawe Street off ramp to the new substation being built at Hobson Street.

Planning for this project has been underway for many years and cable ducts and joint bays were installed along Westhaven Drive and Fanshawe Street in 2005 in order to minimise disruption at the time when the cables would be installed.

The work over the summer involves excavating around the joint bays where the cable sections will be connected after installation.

These works will cause traffic delays, so they have been timed to take place in the holiday period to take advantage of the lower traffic volumes.
