Auckland Conversations: Gordon Price

News story
Wednesday 26 Sep 2012
Auckland Conversations are a series of international speaker events on the issues facing Auckland to become the world's most liveable city.

Auckland Conversations - Lessons from Vancouver: Moving beyond Motordom
Date: Tuesday 9th October
Venue: Auckland Conventions, Aotea Centre, Upper NZI, Aotea Square
Time: 5.00 pm - 7.00pm (welcome at 5.40pm)

Lessons from Vancouver: Moving beyond Motordom tells the story of Vancouver, which has successfully densified while avoiding car dependence, and now proudly promotes ‘Vancouverism’ as their own version of urbanisation.

Gordon Price is ideally placed to pass on what Vancouver learned along the way. He was elected for six consecutive terms as a Councillor during the city’s transformative years, and is now the director of the City Program at Simon Fraser University. He curates the influential blog-site ‘Price Tags’ - www.pricetags.wordpress.com - which comments on urban issues.

He covers the varieties of typologies used; the fundamental transportation choices; the relationship between city hall and developers; and the political will required to carry through on intensification.
