Auckland Conversations: Transforming London through Effective Transport Planning

News story
Monday 30 Apr 2012

Heart of the City is pleased to offer its members the opportunity to learn more about how the lessons learned from the transformation of London's transport network can be applied to Auckland.

Transport for London (TfL) is the statutory corporation chaired by the Mayor of London that manages London’s underground, bus and major road networks. Daniel Moylan was appointed Deputy Chairman of TfL by the Mayor in January 2009. Since then, Daniel has been instrumental in directing policy on a range of transport issues.

Under Boris Johnson’s stewardship, the TfL network has seen substantial increases in capacity and ever-rising levels of usership. This is being delivered through new and upgraded physical infrastructure, complemented by a range of "smart” measures, utilising the ever-increasing data obtained from the network and its users to improve network efficiency and customer experience.

Daniel Moylan is closely associated with streetscape improvements in London, including the radical transformation of Exhibition Road, the gateway to the many world-class museums and academic institutions of South Kensington, and has led on a wide range of public realm improvements delivered in the last four years by the Mayor. In recognition of his achievements, he was elected an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 2008.
