City Centre Barwatch Scheme Launches
Greater safety for late night bar patrons on city streets is the aim of the Barwatch radio scheme, which began in the city centre last weekend.
Nine bars in the downtown precinct around Fort St and High St have been supplied with radios under the Barwatch programme, joining 12 bars in K Road.
The radios enable door staff from participating bars to communicate with a Radio Coordinator and each other, as well as the NZ Police Alcohol Harm Reduction team, about any problems or incidents.
The trial scheme, which will run for 6 months, is funded by Heart of the City, and we’ll be bringing you news as the Barwatch team continues to roll out the scheme.
