Exceptional spending results for the December Quarter

December quarter spending up +13.8%, with the number of new merchants growing by +12.5%

Spending and transactions continue to increase year on year in the City Centre. For the December quarter, within the Heart of the City spending was up by +13.8%, with transactions up by +17.1%. By comparison, our competitors spending was up +4.4%, and transactions +4.3%. The number of merchants continues to increase in the city, with a growth of 12.5%. This positions the city centre as an important and valued destination for tourists and Aucklanders.




Origin of Spending

In the December quarter, spending from international cardholders was up by 18.9% to 22.9% of the total spend. The majority of the spend came from Aucklanders (58.7%) and 18.4% from the rest of NZ.  



Category Breakdown

Heart of the City saw some good results for a number of categories this quarter when compared to competitors. The highest spending growth in the December Quarter was the Attractions category, 26.9% up on the same time last year, followed closely by Hospitality (22.7%) and then Health and Beauty (22%).
