Lane Closures to Quay Street Jan-April 2011
Between January and April, Auckland Transport and Vector are working together to undertake essential infrastructure work on Quay Street between Tangihua Street and Lower Hobson Street. This work will involve completing the second and final stage of the CBD electricity network reinforcement, ensuring customers continue to receive a safe and reliable power supply, and rebuilding a significant section of the road.
Work will be carried out in sections along the project route and will result in three lanes (of six) being closed in the areas where work is taking place. A dedicated traffic management plan is in place to ensure that traffic can flow as smoothly as possible and measures will be put in place to communicate potential delays to road users so they can find alternative routes and traffic congestion on Quay Street can be minimised.
A dedicated project ambassador will be in touch with businesses and residents along the project route to communicate project updates and answer any questions you have around the project as it progresses.
The majority of work will take place in sections along Quay Street between 7am to 7pm, seven days a week however, some work towards the end of the project will be required to take place outside of these hours. The work schedule allows for the fastest possible completion and minimum level of disruption under noise and safety restrictions for the type of work that is taking place.
This project will provide long-term benefits to the CBD and includes components of infrastructure maintenance and development necessary to ensure the city is ready for Rugby World Cup 2011.
By working together Auckland Transport and Vector is able to reduce the possibility of ongoing work in this area. It also enables reduction in the overall program by more than five weeks.
