Update on Real time Pedestrian Counts

News story
Monday 4 Nov 2013
Real Time Pedestrian Counts from cameras installed in the CBD have been successfully used over the past year to identify Trends in the CBD and the impacts on foot traffic around certain events. Monthly pedestrian traffic trends are shown on the Heart of the City website, and information on specific events or developments is also available to our members.

The results from the cameras are a valuable tool for determining pedestrian traffic trends for both Council and property owners, making it possible to monitor trends over regular intervals (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly) and can identify the impact on foot traffic resulting from events or other activities

Starting off with just 4 camera's 18 months ago, the Heart of the City Pedestrian Counting System is rapidly expanding and  will soon have 18 operational camera's in various locations around the city centre by Christmas. There are currently 7 cameras in full operation, with the 8th existing camera temporarily out of action due to renovation. Another 5 cameras are installed and about to be commissioned. In addition, we have completed agreement for an additional 4 Heart of the City cameras, and 1 camera which we will host on behalf of the KRoad Business Association.

You can view a map with the different camera locations here.

Also we will soon launch a Dashboard interface on the Heart of the City website, which will offer a user-friendly access to most of the Heart of the City camera count information, accessible to the public as well as our members, with an emphasis on graphic displays of the most commonly requested data and comparisons. To date, reports have been generated by Heart of the City and sent to property owners, posted on our website, and used for updates to our business members. More details to follow soon.
