Walking and Cycling in the CBD
A city centre that is a great place for walking and cycling is what we want. The Skypath a project, that we have been supporting from its inception, has been identified as one of the Mayor’s six priority projects that will get Auckland moving in 2014, and when realised will be transformational for visitor and recreational cycling and walking in Auckland. Quay Street also has this potential. On Waitangi weekend, Aucklanders had a taste of Quay Streets’ potential as a world-class waterfront boulevard, that attracts walking and cycle-themed street carnival, ‘Ciclovia on Quay’. The event was one of several Auckland Council place-making initiatives planned for Quay Street and aimed to give Aucklanders an idea of what the Quay Street area may be like in future years. It’s all part of council’s long term vision to transform Auckland into the world’s most liveable city. If you didn’t get the chance to attend the event have a look at the youtube clip which shows you some of the ideas of what Quay Street could look like in the future.
City Centre Kick start Promotion
Walking into the city for work is also a focus for Auckland Transport over the coming month. From 25 February to 20 March, Auckland Transport will be encouraging walking to work with their Kick Start campaign. There will be the chance to win some great prizes as you clock up points every time you pass one of the five city centre walking stations. Find out how you can participate here.
