Destination AKL 2025 and what it means for the city centre
We’ve been involved in helping shape the new Auckland visitor strategy which sets out the direction for Auckland’s visitor economy for the next 7 years.
Central to the strategy is the idea of sustainability, and starting to measure success in terms beyond just economic growth. By adding social and environmental factors into the mix, the idea is that as Auckland becomes a more desirable place to visit, it will also become better place to live and work.
We’re not surprised to see that city centre is identified as one of Auckland’s strengths for our domestic visitors – we know that things like the vibrant dining scene, events and arts and culture are unique assets that will continue to make the city centre appeal as a destination.
We have some big opportunities coming across the horizon - America’s Cup 2021 has put the development of our waterfront into a world-class destination on fast forward, the city’s event calendar and credentials will continue to develop and we’re excited to be leading on the idea of developing the city’s night-time economy.
To do this, we will have work together to build this economy in a cohesive way and we look forward to furthering the conversation with businesses on this idea in the very near future.
