A Garden for Orpheus

The gallery will only be open for tours of the exhibition form 12-1pm daily.

Throughout his career Klee used colour and abstract forms to reveal the reality behind physical objects such as plants, animals, and buildings often in terms of the musicality of these objects. In Northern Room (1932) for example, the musicality of a particular room is revealed through multiple layers of colour and abstract form, each layer a musical instrument that together created what Klee called ‘polyphony’. Similarly, A Garden for Orpheus will use colour and abstract forms to reveal the musicality behind objects within the George Fraser Gallery as experienced by Novak through synesthesia.

Before arrival:

1. Search for and download the “Aurasma” app in Google Play or the Apple App Store
2. Launch the app, click on the “A” symbol at the bottom of the screen, then click on the magnifying glass icon
3. In the search box, type in “Shannon Novak” and click “Search”
4. Select the channel titled “Shannon Novak then click “Follow” to follow the channel

Further instructions will be available at the gallery on the opening night, and there will be guided tours of the exhibition by Novak that run between 12PM-1PM each day.
