Drop In Sessions for Downtown Project Programme

Date:
Tuesday 27 Mar 2018 11:00am to 8:00pm
Venue:
Maritime Room, Viaduct Harbour

Over the next few years, several infrastructure projects are planned for the downtown area as part of the continuing revitalisation of the Auckland city centre in the lead up to the hosting of the 36th America’s Cup in 2021.

The projects are aimed at taking the city centre into the future at a time when it is facing extraordinary growth by making the downtown waterfront precinct safer, easier to get to and get around in, significantly adding to the enjoyment of living in a harbour city in the process.

Planned infrastructure projects

  • New public open spaces in Lower Queen Street and Quay Street (between the ferry building and Princes Wharf) to enable better public access to the water’s edge
  • A new configuration for downtown ferry terminal making it easier for ferries and tour boats to berth
  • An upgrade of the sea wall beneath Quay Street.
  • A mooring ‘dolphin’ on Queens Wharf to enable larger cruise ships to visit Auckland.
  • A new road layout for Quay Street between Commerce Street and Britomart Place to improve regularity and efficiency of bus routes servicing the Eastern suburbs.
  • A wider upgrade of Quay Street to make it more pedestrian and cycle friendly.
  • New waterfront infrastructure and event spaces in and around Viaduct Harbour to help with hosting the America’s Cup regatta.
