Meet the team

We’re a small and focused team with big aspirations for Auckland’s city centre. Find out more about each of us and what we bring to Heart of the City.

Viv Beck - Chief Executive

Viv leads Heart of the City, which champions a successful city centre economy with a vibrant and thriving heart.

She thinks gearing up for the city of the future is both fascinating and challenging and loves the way people and businesses are adapting to the changes occurring in all facets of city life.

Kate Cleaver - Head of Marketing

Kate is our destination marketing and events lead, managing strategy and partnerships and overseeing our campaigns and agency relationships.

Kate’s favourite thing about the city centre is that it is many things: vibe, architecture, trees against heritage buildings, festivals (Auckland Writers Festival and NZ International Film Festival are at the top of her list), cafés, restaurants, laneway bars… She could continue for days.

Micaela Daniel - GM Strategy and Operations

Micaela leads our operations, which includes organisational planning, delivering strategic projects, and optimising internal processes so we can all do our best work.

The theatres of the city centre are her turangawaewae, and she also loves the buskers, hare krishnas and other performers who give the streets a sense of variety. Her inside scoop on the city is that we have a huge variety of books and fashion boutiques - second hand, top of the range and unique one of a kind.

Clementine Dickie - Executive Assistant to CEO/Office Manager

Clementine works closely with Viv and organises meetings and minutes for our Executive Committee and AGM. She keeps our office running smoothly and is the first point of contact for accounts.

She loves how the city centre is constantly evolving with new eateries, shops and big developments. “There’s always something new to discover”. Her tip for a Saturday morning is to catch a train to Britomart before enjoying brunch at Ortolana and a stroll around the shops.

Sonya Gandras - Events and Sponsorship Executive

Sonya works with our members and partners to bring city centre events, activations and projects like Artweek and Christmas to life.

Sonya loves how small and large businesses all exist together in the city centre. Her favourite things to do here are a walk along the water in Wynyard Quarter or a good sundowner on a Friday afternoon. Her inside tip? “The City link can be super handy for getting around at only $1 a ride.”

Sarah Hamilton-Hibbard - Membership Coordinator

Sarah is our on-the-ground contact with businesses and property owners around the city, and maintains an important oversight of city management issues.  Sarah is the best person to contact for any business enquiries.

Sarah loves that her role means she gets to spend a lot of time out and about visiting businesses. She’ll often stop in at Ika Bowl for a tofu poke bowl and is also a sucker for Mojo’s ginger loaf.

Emma Jones - Brand Manager

Emma manages our destination marketing campaigns and oversees our always on activity and projects for and social media.

Her favourite thing about the city centre is the sense of discovery. ”Working here, there’s always a new lunch spot to try – though it’s hard to go past Chuffed’s chicken toasted sandwich - or some cheeky shopping to do on your lunchbreak.”

Tania Loveridge - Advocacy and Engagement Manager

Tania leads our advocacy and engagement programme to ensure what’s happening in the city centre will deliver good outcomes for business, as well as delivering special projects.

She loves how quickly she can get around the city on her e-bike or by foot, as well as the buzz from people talking about how much they love the city and its ongoing evolution. 

Julia Rutherford - Digital Marketing Specialist

Julia looks after and our destination marketing-focussed social media, ensuring our content reaches our intended audience through search and advertising. 

Julia loves how we can see the constant evolution of the city centre up close from our Queen Street location. Her recommendation for those in the city is to spend some time browsing Jason Books. “You’re guaranteed to find a good read.”

Jane Stewart - Events and Sponsorship Manager

Jane heads up our events and sponsorships, delivering Heart of the City events like American Express Restaurant Month and managing sponsorships and in-kind support for events in the city centre.

She loves how the city centre is full of new things and surprises and on the other hand it feels like home. Her insiders’ tip is to take to the streets on foot. “You see, discover and feel so much more”.

Erin Taylor - Communications Specialist

Erin looks after the communications for and our member and city stakeholder-focused e-news and social media.

The thing Erin loves most about the city centre is being within a 5 minute walk of the most glorious things to eat. She has tips for those with a sweet tooth in the city. “You’ll find magic in Moin Moin’s franzi and Giapo’s icecream creations.
