Draft Auckland Regional Public Transport Plan
Auckland Transport has released its Draft Auckland Regional Public Transport Plan, which is currently open for submissions until 4.00 pm, Monday 5 November 2012. The plan includes proposals around items including:
- Integrated Service Network - simple, integrated services that connect people with where they want to go (see links to the right)
- Service Quality - a convenient and reliable public transport network using modern vehicles.
- Fares and Ticketing - a fares and ticketing system that attracts and retains customers, while balancing user contributions against public funding
- Infrastructure - a high standard of public transport infrastructure that supports service provision and enhances the customer experience
- Customer Interface – simple, visible and intuitive customer information and services
- Assisting the Transport Disadvantaged - improved accessibility for communities and groups whose needs are not met by the regular public transport system
- Procurement and Commercial Services – a procurement system that supports the efficient delivery of public transport services
- Funding and Prioritisation - effective and efficient allocation of public transport funding
- Monitoring and Review – a system of monitoring and review that supports continuous improvement
One of the key elements of the plan is the proposed network of high frequency all-day bus, train and ferry services. On the map below, each line represents a service that will operate at least once every fifteen minutes from 7am to 7pm, seven days a week. Increasing the frequency and consistency of public transport services will be positive for both the Auckland Region, and the city centre.
HOTCity considers the changes proposed under the plan to be largely positive. One of the areas which we will be expressing concern about is the location of some of the proposed bus interchanges - more specifically, on Wellesley Street, which could have a negative impact on the Arts Quarter.
We welcome feedback from members on your thoughts on the plan so that we can capture any pertinent information in our submission. Please contact us by Thursday 1 November if you would like to add any comments.
