Free Auckland Wi-Fi now available

Auckland Council have partnered with neighbourhood directory Localist and leading Wi-Fi operator Tomizone, to provide a free high speed wireless service across the Auckland region.

The new free Wi-Fi service is called Auckland Wi-Fi and it is found at most of the popular areas around the city and its fringes.

The new service will be free to all users for the duration of the Rugby World Cup (2 September 2011 – 30 October 2011) and free access will be offered for up to three 30 minute sessions a day per Wi-Fi device.

The free Auckland Wi-Fi service is available in:

  • Auckland CBD and fringes
  • Selected mainstreets
  • A selection of tourism, entertainment and recreation areas
  • Selected public transport
  • Popular transportation hubs
  • Rugby World Cup training grounds and venues

A paid interconnected service can also be used at

  • Esquires and Starbucks Coffee stores
  • Westfield Malls

Green signs in public spaces saying "Free Wi-Fi Here” will indicate where the free Auckland Wi-Fi service is available. Any Wi-Fi gadget will pick up the signal within the coverage area.
