Auckland Conversations - From Roads for Vehicles to Streets for People
The 20th century will be remembered as a historical aberration in which we allowed our cities to be dominated by the movement of motorised vehicles rather than the movement of people. The 21st century will hopefully be remembered as the century when we got the tricky balance between movement and place right, where it is recognised that streets are both places where life takes place, as well as places people move through.
Join us at the next Auckland Conversation to hear Jeff Tumlin draw on his extensive experience in cities in North America and around the world with examples where communities have worked together to get this balance right, delivering complete streets as parts of complete communities and drawing lessons for New Zealand along the way. Some solutions can be as cheap as they are ingenious, while other solutions require more time and effort, the trick being to fit the solution to the context and the resources available.
