Auckland Council is regenerating midtown with new public spaces and improved infrastructure, ready to welcome the thousands of people that will flow in and out of the area daily when Te Waihorotiu Station (Aotea) opens.

To support businesses in the area of construction, a small business support programme is in place Progress AKL: Supporting businesses

Underway or Planned Projects include:

Te Hā Noa - Victoria Street Project

This project is transforming Victoria Street to create a thriving space for movement, rest, and recreation. Expected to be finished by 2025. More information can be found here

Wellesley Street Bus Improvements

Creating a more welcoming and accessible Wellesley Street. More information can be found here

Construction activity between Queen Street and Albert Street is scheduled to be completed in late 2025. There will be full pedestrian access and businesses will remain open. To support this: 

  • Bus stops in the area will temporarily move to the block west, between Albert and Hobson Streets. Directions will be signposted.  
  • Elliott to Queen Street access will be bus-only from 7 am to 7 pm, 7 days a week, with bus, goods and service vehicles access allowed from 7 pm to 7 am. 

If you usually travel along Wellesley Street to Queen Street, alternative access includes Mayoral Drive or Victoria Street.
