The Heart of Auckland City In Your Words

Heart of the City is offering $500 prizes for tiny pieces of writing - 20 words or fewer - by local creatives.

Art, performance, culture and creative expression make our city centre’s heart beat faster. We want to bring words from our creative community into our streets to celebrate the heart of our city and bring a smile to people going about their day.

A haiku, a lyric, a pun, a metaphor, a well-turned phrase: use whatever form speaks to you and whatever language you speak to say something thoughtful, beautiful, personal or funny about Auckland’s city centre.

Some say you need 1000 words to paint a picture, here you’ll have 20 at the absolute most.

We’ll publish them in highly visible spots where people can enjoy them. To start with, we’re planning to display at least nine in the Queen Street area - locations may include AO poster-sized utility boxes and window decals.
