The giant Santa and Christmas decorations are being installed

The festive season is approaching, so we'll be installing the city's giant Santa in his usual spot thanks again to Mansons TCLM at the corner of Queen and Victoria Streets and the rest of our decorations shortly. 

Here are the details of what's being installed where and when, as well as contact details if you have any questions.

We will also be communicating directly with businesses in the areas where decorations are being installed.

The giant Santa, reindeer and presents

Wednesday 7 Nov, 9am - 6pm - preparation works taking place
Partial lane closures in Queen Street and Victoria Street close to the intersection. Access through area for pedestrians and traffic will be maintained. First signage and cones will be put in place from 8am and all will be removed by 7pm.

Friday 9 November 2018, 1am – 6am – Santa’s boots installed (rain date 16)
One way detour. Vehicle access from Queen Street into Victoria St East towards Bowen Ave will be closed. Traffic will be able to come down Bowen Ave and straight through but not up Bowen Ave). First signage and road cones will be put in place from 12 midnight and all will be removed by 7am.

Saturday 10 November 2018, 3am – 1pm – Santa and presents installed (rain date 17)
Sunday 11 November 2018, 5am – 6pm – Reindeer installed (rain date 18)

Full road closures of Victoria St East (between Queen and Kitchener Streets) and Bowen Avenue will be in place. Two lanes of Queen Street will also be closed. A traffic detour will be set in place, access to and from the Victoria Street carpark building will be maintained as usual. Bus stops on Victoria Street West & East near to Queen Street will be moved temporarily closer to Albert Street. First signage and cones will be put in place from 2am Saturday and 4am Sunday and all will be removed by 2pm Saturday and 7pm Sunday.

Removal
Saturday 12 January 2019, 3am – 1pm – Santa and presents de-installed (rain date 19)
Sunday 13 January 2019, 5am – 6pm – Reindeer de-installed (rain date 20)

Marketing and events

We’ll be launching our annual Christmas marketing campaign encouraging people to shop and celebrate in the city centre on 12 November, with a special Late Night Christmas event on Thursday 20 December from 5 – 9pm.
