Raising awareness of $2 off-peak parking

News story
Wednesday 20 Feb 2019

In the lead up to Christmas, we ran a campaign in association with Auckland Transport to raise awareness of the $2 per hour parking rates in Auckland Transport’s city centre car parks (Civic, Downtown and Victoria Street) on the weekends and evenings.

The Park Closer campaign was live for seven weeks from 12 November to 31 December 2018 and included advertising on bus backs, parking building lightboxes, radio and digital.

Our campaign evaluation report showed that weekend car parking occupancy for the three AT parking buildings during the campaign period was up 15% compared to the same period in 2017. This was a total of more than 10,000 additional weekend parks.

A simple and cost-effective transport system that offers options to suit different people and purposes – and making sure people are aware of the options – is key to building visitation to and use of the city centre.

Changes in recent years have made public transport, walking and cycling increasingly easy and popular for people getting into and around the city centre, but there are still times when people want or need to get here by private vehicle.
