City Rail Link Ltd. is having a one-off one-day public walkthrough of a section of its twin tunnels on 17 November. Here's what you need to know.

Date: Sunday 17 November, hourly from 8am to 5pm

How: You’ll need a ticket (free) available online: Tickets for City Rail Link's 'Walk The Tunnels' event will be available on-line on Wednesday, 6 November on a first-come first-served basis (limit 6 per person). You need to book for a specific hour.

How many people: 10,000 total only. There will be 10 entry sessions during the day. To keep people safe underground, each session will be restricted to 1000 people.

Where will you walk? You will be able to walk under lower Queen Street, the Commercial Bay development and into lower Albert Street – a return distance of 600 metres that will take about half-an-hour.

Who can/can't go: Space in the tunnels is confined. Access for those who use wheelchairs or mobility scooters is limited. There will be a lift and ramp for wheelchairs. Sorry, there can be no access for bikes, prams, pushchairs, scooters and skateboards. These are compact rail tunnels being constructed, not wide vehicle motorways tunnels.
The tunnels aren’t suitable for people who have a fear of being in a confined space, and there are low levels of lighting underground.

Bikes: This is a walk. Bikes, roller blades, skateboards, scooters etc. are not allowed.

Where does it start? Entry and exit from the tunnels will be through the Britomart station
