The transforming city

Auckland’s city centre is in a period of rapid transformational change, with substantial public and private sector investment.

Public sector investment is guided by Council’s City Centre Master Plan (CCMP), which focuses on making the city centre a great place to work, live and visit. The City Centre Action Plan makes sure that the projects and initiatives within the CCMP –  are delivered in a cohesive, integrated way.

Major development continues on the City Rail Link (CRL), Midtown, along with residential and commercial developments across the city centre. When it’s completed in 2026, the CRL will transform access to the city centre, carrying an estimated 54,000 peak-time passengers each hour and doubling the number of people within a 30-minute commute of the city centre. Recently completed projects include Commercial Bay, The Pacifica, Te Komititanga, Te Wānanga and Quay Street.
